Reporting an Absence
If your child is absent from school, families must contact the academy on the first day of absence before 8:00am, and each day after unless otherwise agreed.
Please contact us by:
Telephone: 0116 214 3150
Email: [email protected]
MCAS: My Child at School App
Please include:
- Scholar’s full name
- Year group and tutor group
- Clear reason for absence
- Expected return date (if known)
Where possible, please also provide medical evidence such as:
- Appointment letters or texts
- GP or hospital text messages
- Medical letters
If we do not hear from you, we will contact home as part of our safeguarding procedures. This may include text messages, telephone calls, emergency contact checks and home visits where necessary.
Illness and Medical Absence
If your child is genuinely too unwell to attend school, please let us know as early as possible.
We understand that some scholars face more complex barriers to attendance, including physical health needs, mental health challenges, SEND or wider family circumstances. Their right to education remains the same, and we will work in partnership with families to provide the right support.
Where absence becomes frequent, prolonged, or attendance falls below expected levels, we may require medical evidence to authorise future absences. This is not about challenge – it is about ensuring the right support is in place and helping your child attend successfully.
Medical Appointments
Where possible, medical and dental appointments should be made outside school hours.
If this is unavoidable:
- Please notify school in advance
- Provide appointment evidence
- Scholars should attend before and after appointments wherever possible
Missing a full day for a short appointment should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.
