TMET Free School Application Successful

We are pleased to announce that the Department for Education announced today that The Mead Educational Trust’s (TMET) application to open a free school in Leicester has been approved. The new secondary school is expected to open in 2018 or 2019 and will be based on the model of Rushey Mead Academy, the highly successful 11 to 16 Leicester academy, that is “rated outstanding by Ofsted and consistently one of the highest performing schools in Leicester“. Through TMET, the new school have access to a world-class education network and excellent school-to-school support. We will now work with the Department for Education to establish a location for the school and, once that is confirmed, will work closely with the local community and parents in this exciting new venture.

Applications assessed as strong are invited to an interview with the DfE and we were delighted that RMET was amongst these. The interview took place last week and covered all aspects of the Rushey Mead Free School application. We expect to hear the outcome of our application by Easter and will update the website as this is known.
