Geography

Geography will inspire pupils with a curiosity and fascination about physical and human dimensions. Pupils will be immersed in a foundation study of the earth, its structure, atmosphere and landscapes. They will be taught about atmospheric currents and key physical processes so that they can then better understand weather, climate, and the landscapes of the UK. We will provide pupils with a greater understanding of key themes, such as natural hazards, rivers, coasts, ecosystems, population, migration, development and sustainability, the environment, people and places. As a result, pupils will understand the complex interactions between physical and human processes and develop their ability to hold well-informed opinions about issues at a variety of scales. Geography pupils will be inspired to undertake further personal study and more formal study at KS5 and undergraduate level.

Pupils are encouraged to develop their general knowledge of the world around them. The department has a twitter feed @rusheymeadgeog where many relevant stories, articles and clips are shared.

BBC Bitesize (www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize) has a range of resources for both Keys Stage 3 and 4 which may be useful for improving understanding and revising.

The Met Office has a range of good case study material for Key Stage 4. (http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/about-us/who/how/case-studies )
